The Virtual Outdoor Temperature Sensor upgrade for CY1201FW automatically monitors the weather in your area and switches to the most economic heat source.
For example, as temperatures drops below 0° F, resistive heating becomes more efficient than compression heating, which is better for mild winters. Switching to resistive heating during extreme cold also reduces wear on your heat pump as it does not have to go through defrost cycles.
No installation or new wiring are required—it all happens through a virtual remote temperature sensor.
Note: VOTS can reduce your energy cost for heat pumps installed in climates with temperatures that regularly go below 0° F during the winter. There is no advantage for conventional furnaces or ground-source (geothermal) heat pump systems.
